I have been following nopCommerce for nearly a year now. As a former half-baked developer myself I can appreciate the time and effort dedicated by this team to deliver a product to the public. Thanks for your effort.
But let’s face it; this is a product BY DEVELOPERS FOR DEVELOPERS. Especially after the migration to MVC. It seems you guys want to be on the cutting edge for the sake of self-aggrandizement, not for the sake of giving us a solid product. If your interest was in providing a solid product, you would have fixed all the bugs, no matter how small, in version 1.9, before moving to MVC.
I have been waiting for more than a year to have a stable version with thorough documentation so that I can get on the web with my products and every release just seems to pose more and more issues than the last. I updated my Visual Studio with the MVC extensions and all I get are hundreds of errors when everything used to work well before. The least you could have done was to produce a series of screencasts indicating the upgrade path to version 2.20.
To the development team: 90% of your users are us newbies that are looking for a way to sell our products online without paying an arm and a leg for a thoroughly tested shopping cart.
By the time we hire someone to fix all the issues you always introduce with every release, I could have bought an off the shelf solution, with a year tech support, a lot of hand holding, “do it for me please” kind of thing. If I implemented your solution; by the time I get what I want I will have spent many thousands of dollars in labor.
Your support sucks big time. Your documentation even more; since there is none!
So…after speaking with some of my colleagues we all agree that we have all started looking for another solution unless the nopCommerce team commits to fix EVERY BUG in version 2.20 before moving on to whatever self-aggrandizement feature you decide to implement.
I beg you please: Fix every bug before moving on; otherwise you will have a gang of disgruntled would-be-users bashing your egotistical approach to application development. It seems as if you are out to be named #1 in the world.
GIVE IT UP! ‘CAUSE WE ARE GIVING YOU UP!!!!!
Suggestion: I WOULDN’T MIND PAYING FOR YOUR PRODUCT, if every release went out as bug free as possible (yeah, yeah…there are those who say no piece of software is bug free. I disagree; but even so, you could commit to releasing patches and service packs periodically. Have the application automatically look for updates and automatically download and install them as other software companies do.)
Eagerly awaiting a vigorous debate (not insults) about this topic; Remember, your target audience is 90% un-experienced and 100% intelligent. GIVE US A COMPLETE PRODUCT, PAID FOR AND SUPPORTED.

Robert,
What you've written is pretty offensive and at the same time comical. Most of us spend our free time trying to answer the 1000's of requests for features and bug fixes. Not everyone charges for their help and considering there are only a few active developers, team support is still pretty good.
It is interesting that in one paragraph you knock the idea that you must pay for support and software. Only three paragraphs later you say that you would be OK paying for a complete product.
You have some good ideas and input is always welcome. Just like the name says this is a community project and it wouldn't exist without the community. While you and your colleagues agree that there needs to be great improvement in nopCommerce. Many other companies understand the reality. This project is improved by a constructive community and you should get involved more to help promote the changes you're looking for.
It should also be noted that this isn't just an attempt to be cutting edge. A company that will remain nameless for now with a ranking 2000 times higher than your business has selected nopCommerce as their platform because of the technologies and direction nopCommerce has chosen. These technologies are industry proven and the change needed to take place at some point. Logically it makes sense to switch for a major revision.
I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we appreciate your input and the level of care you have. It would be great if you can put all the effort you put into these four duplicate posts into helping improve the community.
p.s.
Solution partners can be found at the URL below. They are completely competent and can help fix the issues you have which would make this a bug free and paid for solution. :)
