Puerto Rico as a State/Province for United States

I just wanted to let you know that Puerto Rico SHOULD NOT be listed as a state/province option when a user selects United States as a country. Even though Puerto Rico is related to the United States, it is not a state. Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States. Technically it is not even a country since it is a part of the United States.

Therefore, to prevent confusion and shipping issues, it should be selectable as a country.

Thank you,

Greggory

I'm running 3.40 of nopCommerce and over the past couple of years have had many orders from customers in Puerto Rico. Today, however, we can't seem to get any orders to go through to customers from PR. Whether they choose the United States as the country or Puerto Rico as the country.

Neither UPS nor USPS can calculate rates to "United States" with a Puerto Rican zip code...nor can they calculate rates to "Puerto Rico" with "Other (Non US)" as the state....state is required, and "Other (Non US)" passes a NULL value...

PLEASE ADVISE!

I really think there needs to be an absolute way of handling Puerto Rico.
I agree with Greggory in that PR should be treated as it's own Country, and be removed from the StateOrProvince table altogether.

There are 8 senatorial districts in PR, which I think for the sake of postal delivery, would serve well as Puerto Rican "States."

PR,San Juan,,True,0
PR,Bayamon,,True,0
PR,Arecibo,,True,0
PR,Mayagüez-Aguadilla,,True,0
PR,Ponce,,True,0
PR,Guayama,,True,0
PR,Humacao,,True,0
PR,Carolina,,True,0

By having states defined for PR as a country, I think we might at least get rates returned from UPS and USPS....

I tested my theory and can report that shipping rates are successfully returned for Puerto Rico orders!

Solution:

1. Add each of the senatorial districts described in my previous post as State or Province options for the Puerto Rico country record.

2. Delete or un-publish the Puerto Rico state/province option associated with the United States country record.

Thanks! It's really a bit weird. I've just created a work item
