Paid plugins, questions for single license

Hi All,

I have some questions in my mind.
I bought a single domain plugin from one company. In their license agreement is written that single domain license can be used also on developer's machines and also test environments.
I commercially use the plugin on the domain that the plugin is bought for. But also on my development environment I use not localhost as domain but a custom one - let say mydev.blya.local-bocal.com. Also I use the plugin on my test environment - which is live site but used only for test purposes.

So, my questions are:
1) It seems that the license are not for preventing not to use the plugin on another installation(and domain) different from the domain the plugin is bought for. Right? - or at least for some of the sellers
2) Is there any validations for single domain licenses or the companies that sell such plugins/licenses expect their clients not to abuse the product and use it on public stores without buying a license?

I am planing to sell the plugin that I created for me and ... I want to know more of the experience/expectations of your work with that.

Regards,
Boris

Also, I've just remembered, that I read in some license agreement that the license period is for one year. But the plugin will not stop working after the license expiration date.
So the plugin seems will work longer than expiration date of the license.

So ... is there any restrictions for the plugin when its license expire?

No one wants to share opinion ( : or how license should work

I'm pretty sure that every plugin developer devises and implements his own licensing scheme. They are not all the same. Some have limited functionality after x number of days, others stop working completely because they "phone home" to check against developer database for expiration..other do different things.

There is a free plugin for generating licenses and giving to customers here:

Usually when you see a timed license that won't prevent the plugin from working when it expires, they are really just offering access to upgrades during the licensed period.

Using the license key generator linked above, there is no way to "take it back".  Once you give the customer their unique license key for their domain it will always work because it's just text encryption and not based on a any phone home check.

In that same key generator, domain licenses will only check that the root level of the domain name matches and any subdomains would be valid.  That would explain why your dev and test environments work.
