How to transfer site from godaddy to another host

If you get a directory listing when you navigate to the folder that nopCommerce is installed into then it sounds like your hosting isn't configured to properly support ASP.NET

You first need to make sure that this is enabled in your hosting control panel (the latest versions of nopCommerce require .NET 4), you also need an MS SQL Server 2005/2008 database to run the site content from.

Once everything is correctly configured, when you navigate to the installation in a browser it should detect that it needs to install itself properly and will take you through the installation wizard. This is where you need to give information like your database server address, database name, username and password etc.
The installation and full hosting requirements are listed elsewhere on this site :)

Good luck, nopCommerce is great and works a treat

I came here looking for answers.  A friend introduced me to the NOP download.  I had it put into a sub directory through my host, but as a newbie I have no idea what to do next.  I have lurked around trying to find the answer that I can understand and not having much luck.

When I go to the sub site it is showing the entire contents of that directory..... I dont know what to do next :-)

Can anyone help a girl out?

Thanks

We need more info.  Sub directory where?  If it's on your own computer, that's what you should get since you probably don't have a web server running.

I will contact them to see what the scoop is. It is hosted, not on my home computer.

They keep messing up.  I will check and let you guys know what happens.   I was hoping it was a quick install- Thanks :)

That said, it could be as simple as a few steps.

1.  Backup your stores full directory structure (all files and sub directories) at Godaddy, and FTP that backup to your computer.

2. FTP that backup to the web root directory on the new host (they can tell you where) and restore it (and analogy would be to zip it up at Godaddy, and unzip it at the new place).

3.  if you have stuff in your store at Godaddy, backup your database at Godaddy, and do the same process of FTP it to the new place where they tell you to put it.  They may have to be involved in restoring it.  Ask them.

4.  If you have purchases an SSL certificate at Godaddy and want to move it, that's a bit more complex and has to involve both hosting providers.

Details on what you have already done/got going would be helpful.

I had the same problems with Godaddy, and basically we wrote of a years hosting payment after one month and move to Arvixe.  GREAT SUPPORT!!!

Hi.

I am with JUSTHOST ( I hate them) and they do not support this application.  In other words, just one more thing they wont do or cant do.

I have my blog in a sub directory with them, and my root directory (main domain name) is pointed at wix.com for now because I was looking for other options for web templates & such.  I am new when it comes to web design or anything in that nature and just want a functional easy to run store.

I used zen cart for awhile but I could not afford to pay someone to do the template and I hated the free ones and could do nothing with them because I am not skilled in that.

Any suggestions on a host that could take on my needs that is an affordable option?  Right now I get what I pay for, I understand that.... As a newer business on the web, I cannot afford to keep losing money at this time.

I love the featured sites that use NOP and if I am able to create something like those then I am in LOVE!

Thanks for any help :-) I feel very welcomed here....some other boards are just down right nasty, so thank you for being so great.

Go with Arvixe.  Best bang for the buck, I think they have an option to install Nop for you, great support.  You will get many affirmatives from forums for Arvixe.  Since you have your domain "parked" (so it would seem from your posts) you would just tell who you have the domain name  registered with to point it at the IP (your unique internet phone number) of your store.

If you purchase hosting for your site from them you need to get a static IP (they will know what that is, and it's an option when you sign up).  That is necessary for having an SSL certificate for online secure shopping.

Your on the right track, Arvixe and NOP would be sweet and cheap.  I THINK we are paying like $42 for six months.

Hi. I will check them out, THANK YOU!!!

I am not parked. I have a full running blog & website pointed at another static (wix.com) site.   I turned away from my hosting site and now I'm not sure it was the right idea to get rid of my zen cart.

I am just looking for a brilliant shop, and this one looks neat..

I have to figure out how to play with it on my computer without being hosted so I can see what it does before I jump the gun and make another bad decision.. I keep making those thinking I am doing the right thing.

THANK YOU SO MUCH :) :)

With Arvixe, you actually receive a temporary URL to view your site without pointing your domain. So, you can go to http://temporarydomain.server.arvixe.com or something similar(will be provided at setup after order), and it will show you your site and whatever you have uploaded or installed into it.

Furthermore, Tangopdx is correct in saying that we will install NopCommerce for free for you if you need the assistance. We also have a NopCommerce installer in your Arvixe control panel from the Microsoft Web App Gallery.

If you have any questions , please feel free to post it here or contact our live chat or phone support 24 hours a day!

Oh wow, fast response, thank you!

I do have a gazillion questions, and most may seem trivial (coming from someone who is not savvy with websites)

I'm on Arvixe right now browsing around.

A) I have a domain name already- so I'm good for that.

B) I dont want to pay to play with the nopcommerce.... I would rather check it out first before I take the leap, is that possible then?

C) I am scared to try and switch my emails over.... is that hard to do?  They are business account emails.. I cant have them lost or not directing properly...

D) Right now I have a blog.domain.com, can I still keep it that way?  I just made new business cards... lol.   And can i just make my own subdirectories/sites or do I have to keep asking you guys to handle that?  Right now because I gave up on justhost, I had my root directory site pointed to wix.com for a flash site, that I am not in love with.... I want to know that I can just go into my Cpanel and do what I want, when I want......

E) I can use my ftp program?

F) Unlimited emails and how many email accounts can I have?

G) It says I can have 5sql databases?  So does that mean I can have up to 4 subs and 1 main root dir?

H) What is the dedicated IP Address?

I am not sure what else right now... but I need to research more of the NOP because I need to make sure I can actually make a nice website or will I be lost with a great back end and cart, but not be able to do editing because I lack that skill and the funds to pay someone to do it.

:)  I'm a pain.

Your questions are answered below:

A) I have a domain name already- so I'm good for that.

B) I dont want to pay to play with the nopcommerce.... I would rather check it out first before I take the leap, is that possible then?

We do not offer trials, but we do offer a 60 day money back guarantee.

C) I am scared to try and switch my emails over.... is that hard to do?  They are business account emails.. I cant have them lost or not directing properly...
The contents of the emails will not be easily transferred as you would be transferring them from linux to windows. There are tools available for you to use:
http://blog.arvixe.com/how-to-use-imapsize-to-backup-and-restore-your-imap-email-account/
http://blog.arvixe.com/how-to-copy-your-emails-from-one-email-account-to-other-email-account/

If you use POP instead of IMAP or you just dont care if the emails are lost, then there is nothing to worry about

Yes, our ASP.NET control panel allows you to add subdomains, domains, etc. I should mention that you currently have a linux account at JustHost(they only offer linux), while you would need an ASP account at Arvixe to use NopCommerce(we offer both ASP and Linux). While most customers dont run into issues running PHP on Windows, specific software require linux. Thus I recommend keeping all PHP software on a linux package and using the ASP package for ASP.NET. We can provide a discount if you choose to have 2 packages(1 linux and 1 windows)

E) I can use my ftp program?

Yes, you can use your FTP program or any other.

F) Unlimited emails and how many email accounts can I have?

Unlimited email accounts.

G) It says I can have 5sql databases?  So does that mean I can have up to 4 subs and 1 main root dir?

All of our plans provide unlimited databases.

H) What is the dedicated IP Address?

It allows you to view your site using an IP Address by typing it into a browser like 100.213.242.231
