Issues after upgrade to 3.0

Just take a look at the attached image. What's going on?

It looks like you have a problem with your language resources Configuration > Languages > View String Resources  (LocaleStringResource table in db).

You might be able to restore that table from your backup, and then edit/modify the upgrade sql scripts to only do the resource loading.   Or, to load "original", you can probably load the English Language Pack  (although, admittedly, I know little about language packs)

Well originaly this site was in English didn't expect that I would need to change anything.  I will look into this but my skills are limited.

Looks like you have two languages defined in your store, both are English (Notice the two USA flags on the homepage). The screenshot you sent shows the second (duplicated) language, which does not have any resources defined for it yet, and hence, it shows the key names instead of the values. I presume that if you simply switch to the other English language (the original / default), the site will display normally. Then, you will have to go to Admin --> Configuration --> Languages, and delete the duplicated language (the one that comes with no resources).
