Currently in all the versions of nopCommerce Filtering on the bases of specification attributes is done on the bases of listing all the filter options.

But from the design point of view it is not feasible at all. With only 2 values in each specification attribute it takes half of the page, here's the example: http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/668/filterj.jpg

So what will happen if spec attributes consists of 5 or 6 or 10 values ? it will take whole page and products will be at the bottom and online customer will have to scroll down to find products.

I guess it should be displayed in drop down menu. It would be great if in admin section, store owner can choose if he/she wants to display filter option as list or dropdown menu.

Drop down menu will only take 1% of page space as compared to the current list view which is taking almost 50% of the page space.

In this case it'll not be SEO friendly. If somebody has more than 10 spec option, he can always customize the solution (ProductSpecificationFilter.ascx file)

1) The best should be to make it configurable Dropdown/Selectable/Radio/Checkboxes

2) Filtering should include both specs AND price ranges and not specs OR price ranges

You could do it like this site did:

Works good while maintaining SEO.
