There are about three pages dedicated to gift cards in the User Guide 1.50.  In my opinion it is well worth the 20 bucks.

I would also like to know how to use the gift card. How do you add it to your site for someone to purchase a gift card? Can someone please assist. Thank You.

When and how does the recipient of the giftcard receive it?

In the Order details, there are plenty of emails to the store owner, and customer of the giftcard.  But there are none to the recipient of the giftcard.  Subsequently I am unsure how and when the recipient will get the gift card?  If there a manual step I need to do?

thanks in advance.

Preparations
1. Make sure you have a product variant that has the Is Giftcard checkbox checked.
2. Make sure you have the message template called 'GiftCard.Notification' in all active languages.

Purchase
3. Customers can enter a name and email address of the recipient of the gift card and add a gift card to the cart.

Administration
4. Set the order to Paid and Send
5. The gift card is now added to the list of gift cards. See Sales > Purchased Gift Cards.
6. View the details of the gift card and check the checkbox 'Is Gift Card Activated'.
7. Click Notify Sender to send the message to the recipient.

Buying with a gift card
8. The recipient can now enter the card number in the shopping cart page. If the total amount of the products in the cart is less than the value of the gift card, the remainder of the gift card amount will be 'reserved'. (See tab Usage History in the gift card details in the Administration.)

Hope this helps.

You know what, I got it all right except for step 7.  Thank you very much for this!!  Gold.

I wonder if you could relabel the "Notify Sender" button to "Notify Recipient" in a future addition.
A small change but more correct.

Also

I think that there is something wrong with the way Tax is handled for Giftcards...

The email that is sent to the recipient is for the Tax exclusive amount.

Eg
Giftcard value = $2
Tax =.22 (based on a 12.5% calculation)
Tax exclusive amount =$1.78.

But when the recipient redeems the giftcard, the purchase price is only reduced by the Tax Exclusive amount.  Meaning they effectively pay the tax twice.

Eg.
Goods cost including tax = $300
less gift card = $1.78
Total payable = 298.22 Including tax of ($33.33).

As I understand it, it is generally accepted to calculate the tax at source, eg selling the Giftcard.  But when redeeming the Giftcard the tax has already been paid, so the price should reduce by the tax inclusive amount.  Hence the value of the card is really the Tax inclusive amount and not the tax exclusive amount.

I am surprised this isnt an issue other store owners are concerned about?

In New Zealand, when you buy a gift voucher for $50, the recipient gets a gift voucher worth $50. this is not what happens in NopCommerce where the recipient gets a voucher less tax.
