Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

When I try to click on a shopping cart when logged in as an admin, it gives me a error.  Only the one customer who is an admin gets this error.  Every other user can access the carts.

In the activity log I get Object reference not set to an instance of an object. and when I click view I get this

I had a similar error once...and it sounds like maybe it's your problem too.

I was logged in as admin and had items in my shopping cart.
I permanently deleted one of the products in my shopping cart from the system...
Then when I tried to view my shopping cart, I had this error.
It was only happening to my admin account, because it was the only customer account who had the deleted product in its cart.

You can go to Admin >> Customers >> find the admin account >> Current Shopping Cart
See if all items in the cart are still available products..

If this is the problem, then you will have to open the database and manually delete the shopping cart items for the admin customer...or you can just create a new Admin role customer and delete the old one.

I presume it's related to this work item. If yes, then here is the fix

I tried to delete the items from the database and they are gone.  So when I log in and there is not shopping cart items I can click on the cart and it says we have no items.  But as soon as I put an item in the shopping cart, it gives me an error.


Andrei - what file would I make that change.  I see that the change was in the source files but I would like to change it on my web files to see if that works.

In case it helps others....I had this exception this morning and can confirm that the fix mentioned by Andrei (https://github.com/nopSolutions/nopCommerce/commit/b5f7884ce5be583e0d5e4deaa300b9176eca42fa) does indeed resolve the problem.

I use NopCommerce 4.10. When the customer enters the shopping cart, the error follows when selecting a billing address from past addresses. If it requests a new address, it will go through the step and will not see any errors.
I do not check to disable the "billing address" step in the order settings.
If I tick, it does not go to the billing address stage and gives me an error.
