The latest version (1.7) is responding slower than the previous (1.6). I have both installed in the same server and running http://mon.itor.us/ checks on the response time.

Where previouslly the response was sub-second (which is great), the pages now respond on average above 1 second.

In the release notes I've seen "performance improovements" so I hoped the backoffice would run faster but it continues to respond quite slow.

Is the Entity Framework now being used responsible for the drop in speed ?

I'am experiencing drop in performance too. Comparing 1.7  to 1.6 shows 75% drop in req/s using ab tool on start page.
It  doesn't mean that 1.7 is slow, it's quite acceptable, but great speed of 1.6 is one of the strong selling point of this product. There are probably some caching differences because when cache is disabled globally, performance is comparable.

do you have vb.net version ?

There's no VB version of NopCommerce, if that's what you're asking.

I've looked around 1.7 a little, and am I correct in seeing that I can assign a discount to a customer by their assigned customer role?

Giving wholesale customers a different price is something I've been asked to do.

Is NopCommerce 1.7 stored image as FILESTREAM file type? which is new datatype in sql server 2008.

Yes indeed, it should work perfectly for your usage out of the box. The logged in user sees the discount on each product page too, which is a nice touch.

That's great news for me and my client.  Now if I just had not chosen Godaddy for hosting.

They have not implemented .net 4.0

They run in medium security so no PDF documents work.

And I can't ad language packs (don't know why yet).

I would suggest people stay away from Godaddy.

1) http://www.arvixe.com/asp_net_web_hosting

2) http://www.softsyshosting.com/

These 2 hosting companies are good, and users are really happy with it, some people like Arvixe and some like softsyshosting...i have read criticism about arvixe somewhere, but never heard anything bad about softsyshosting...

you can directly talk to the users of these hosting companies here:

Maybe a stupid question: our hosting partner says windows server core 2008 doesn't support .Net4.0 yet and we must wait for service pack or hotfix...

Does this mean I cannot upgrade to nop 1.70?

Unfortunately the answer would appear to be "yes you cannot" at least until there is a service release of Core. From what I've just been reading don't expect that overnight either.

Could you supply another nop 1.70 which supports .Net3.5?
