Hi All,
I know there have been several topics on this for previous versions, I have read most of them but the solutions do not seem to be available/relevant in v4.0, such as going to Language, or localisation.
So I hope it's okay to create a new topic for v4.0
Could anyone tell if there is a way of changing Manufacturers to Brands, ideally through the Administration panel, but could update the tables in SQL server if needed.

Unless I'm not understanding what you want... everything you need would be in:
Admin >> Configuration >> Languages >> Edit >> String Resources Tab
If you search for "Manufacturer" then 114 items will come up. If you change all references to the word "Manufacturer" to "Brands" then you will have effectively changed "Manufacturers" to "Brands".
Not sure if the 114 items are ALL of the ones for "Manufacturer", but it's probably close.

I was looking around there for ages as well, not sure how I missed it.
If anyone else is looking to do the same, just to expand on bfranklin825's post.
From that page, search for "Manufacturer" in the Resource Name field.
It will return 114 records, change every reference to Manufacturer in the Value field, to Brand (or whatever you're changing it to), do not change the values of the Resource Name field.
