SSL causing images to not load

Using version 3.9
If I enable the 'Force SSL on all pages' option, we have an issue where random images do not get loaded on, for example, category pages.
Also on search result pages.

If I click a product with a 'missing' image and go to the product page the image loads fine.
If I disable the 'Force SSL' option all images load properly.

Any ideas on what may be causing this?
