Header menu too long and not usable when lots of subcategories exist

I am using NOP 4.1.
I have about my main categories that each has about 30 subcategories. Problem is that once I hover over a category in the top menu it shows a very long subcategory menu which I have to scroll to bottom of page to view all items and most of the times while I try it closes.
Why it does not show the subcategories next to each other?

Default menu is not designed to handle those many sub-categories. To get the menu items side by side, you'll need to either customize your CSS or use some menu plugin.

Thanks for your reply. That is not the menu I am looking for It has images which I dont want. I checked the marketplace for menu plugins but very few exist and those do not support what I need.
Any other suggestion for mega menu?

The menu plugin supports various types of menus and image is just one of them. You can always create simple multiple columns menus without having any image.
You can download the trial and check if that works for your requirements.
