Hello,

I am very new to nopCommerce and building an online sales site.

Recently, I am entering the categories one by one.  I wonder whether it is possible to upload all categories via XML just like uploading the products.

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

At the moment, there is no way of importing categories via XML. The only option ( added since 4.00 version ) is to import categories via Excel file.

Hello Hristian,

Thank you for the reply.  So, please confirm if I understand you correctly.

My hosting company installed nopCommerce and added some categories as samples.  And he exported them into an Excel file.

So without adding categories manually through the Admin panel, I can write all the categories to an xls file with same format provided by the system and upload to add all the required categories.

Please confirm and thank you in advance.

And one more thing please.

When uploaded with an Excel file, category IDs will be assigned by the system automatically ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Yes, you can write all categories into an Excel file with the same format as the exported one and import them.

Hello Hristian,

Sorry for the buzz again.  One more thing please.

In your reply, you confirmed that the system will assign the IDs automatically.

So, while entering data into the file, if I write the upper category name (or simply refer to cell containing the name ofthe parent or upper category by inserting "="), the system will replace the name with the assigned ID number ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,

I'm not sure that I understand the question correctly. My advice is to try with simple data, for example with one category and one parent category to see if it will fit your needs.
