Database Connection Settings

Hi Guys
I have had to move a large NopCommerce 4.0 site over to it's own VPS, so to do so I cloned the current VPS it was on and removed all the other websiites that were also running on that VPS to leave just the NopCommerce website in question on the new VPS. I updated all the IP, Nameservers and DNS settings for the new server and then changed my local machines HOSTS file so that I could check the newly cloned website on the new server before I make the final DNS changes on the domain to point to this new server.

I pinged the site to make sure I was getting the new cloned version from the new server and all seemed fine.

Now today I have been optimising the new server for running just this website (using this great blog as a guide: https://www.nopcommerce.com/common-tips-settings-recommendations-to-optimize-performance-in-nopcommerce) and all seems good, but then when I tested the backend again to see if all was loading correctly, the orders page was showing sales from today, but there should be none as it should be using the database from the new server which will not have been updated since yesterday.

I re-pinged the website to confirm it was giving me the new server IP and it was. I then checked the SQL database on both VPS machines and sure enough, the current running website VPS has 9 more sales than the new VPS database, so the sales are definitely going to the existing database, but why am I seeing them in my browser when I have HOSTS set to the new Sever IP address? The connection string is simply set to Local (exactly the same as before on the cloned VPS) so why is the site getting the data from the old server database rather than the new one?

I am worried there is a setting somewhere that I have missed and if I back-up and restore the old VPS database to the new one and then change the DNS to make it live, for some reason it will be going back to the old VPS. Is this even possible?

Can anyone shed any light ion this so I feel more confident about changing the DNS after a restore?

Ok, so this seems like I missed one little detail. The HOSTS entry was without www yet the website is www. Completely my fault and I do apologise.

Ok, so now I am seeing the correct website (new VPS version) it seems that the issue may still remain. If I load any page other than the home page or a static page that doesn't need to query the database in a big way (contact, about us etc) I get an internal error. The Logs tell me this:

This seems to happen on any page. Is this because it is trying to access the old VPS database for some reason?

Further to that error, if I try and access the Orders list ion the admin area I get zero results now and the error log tells me this:

Again, I have checked the database on the new VPS directly and know the sales are there, so is the site looking somewhere else for the database and not finding it?

...and yet again, the magic of asking questions in here gets my answers! I don't know how it happens but it does. Turns out another oversight by me! The new server was cloned but without the same amount of RAM. I was only running 2GB and needed at least 4GB, hence the timeouts.

You never know, this might help some other novice like me? Thanks everyone.

I have a VPS which has 2G Ram, it often complained with timeout, maybe the same problem as you.
V4.2/V4.3 under linux.
