Color & Size variables

Is it possible to set color and size variables for specific products. For example a clothing store would sell shirts that have different colors and sizes.

The user should be able to add a specific color option to his/her cart, as well as choosing a specific size - which in turn should have its own unique pricing.

A green XL shirt may be $40 but a green XXL would be $65

Yes this is certainly possible.

You could create a different product variant (SKU) for each colour and use product variant attributes to control the size pricing.

or you could do both colour and size using attributes.

1. Create product "T-Shirt" - this automatically creates one product variant (SKU)
2. Select the product variant, then select "Product Variant Attributes" tab
3. Add both Color and Size attributes
4. Once added you can add attribute values by clicking the "View/Edit value" link for each attribute
5. When adding the values you can add a price adjustment value.

Now when customer chooses your "T-Shirt" product, they select colour and size attributes and price is automatically calculated depending on their selection.

In fact, have a look at http://shop.retroviz.com/Products/45-t-shirt.aspx

you can see how this works.

Is there a way to specify a different SKU for each size or color selected via attribute?  It should either append a code to the sku or replace the sku altogether.   Base sku = Tshirt, selection is for a red, medium shirt.  So it would either add "-red-med" or just allow you to specify the sku you want for it.  ie Tshirt-red-med

Also, I think it should also be able to be assigned and inventory per attribute.  I only have 2 red medium tshirts but 20 large red and 5 large black.

This is where I get somewhat confused on how the system should work.  I know you can do everything I just specified via variants.  However, it would work better using attributes.

Thanks for any suggestions on being able to accomplish this.

Currently this is not possible. Attributes are for a specific product variant so you would either create one product variant for each option (color in this example) or one variant with a color attribute.

I understand your requirement for stock control based on attributes and believe this feature is already on our roadmap.

My personal preference is to use attributes for things like Color/Size but as I said above, you do miss out on the stock control features using this method.

I'm just thinking "out loud" here.  What if the attributes were assigned to the product itself and then each value or combination of values linked to a coinciding variant?  Does that makes sense?

Are there any ideas on a timeframe on this feature being added?  I have one client and myself who are waiting for this feature to be included.  In my client's case, this is really the only thing that is holding them back from switching to Nop right now.

When I looked at issue # 4043 on Codeplex it doesn't look like anyone is currently working on this.  It also states the following: "Inventory control on options is fully supported."  Yes you can create a different variant for every color/size combination and maintain stock that way but it really clutters up the site.  As I stated previously, there needs to be a way to associate either attribute combinations with variants.  I'm not so concerned about the Admin area becoming cluttered but when a end user goes to pick a tshirt out that comes in multiple colors and sizes, those options need to only be shown via a dropdown.

This is the ideal example that A.M. showed:

However, inventory is only based on the shoe itself, not the different attributes in which it really should be.

Thanks!

We can't tell you now when this feature will be implemented.

Would be a killer feature, especially for the clothing industry.
