Issue with Intermittent System Crash

Hi

I am hoping somebody can help. Current running V4.0 and we keep experiencing random crashes with the following message showing in the logs:

One or more compilation failures occurred:
error CS0041: Unexpected error writing debug information -- 'The version of Windows PDB writer is older than required: 'diasymreader.dll''

I have not been able to trace the issue as it happens randomly and we cannot seem to locate a specific line of code that causes this. The only way to get the system back up and running is to recycle the application pool.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks.
Peter

What version of .net are you running?
Do you use the source code version of Nop?

You can try re-installing the native PDB writer through NuGet here:
https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.DiaSymReader.Native/1.7.0

Hi Barfnuts

.Net installed framework is - .NET Framework 4.7.2
.NetCore runtimes installed are
- .AspNetCore.All 2.1.3
- .AspNetCore.APP 2.1.3
- .NETCore.app 2.0.9
- .NETCore.app 2.1.3

Using Source Code version of NOP and have added Microsoft.DiaSymReader.Native.x86.dll to the root of the site on the server but the problem is still happening every now and again.

Any ideas in the meantime would be appreciated.

Hi Peter

nopCommerce 4.0 requires .Net Framework 4.6.1, also are you running this in 32bit or 64bit mode ?
Hi XtremeCommerce

The app pool is set to Enable 32-Bit Application = True.

The site does run as a whole it just seems to cache view errors and the only way to get it running again is to recycle the application pool in IIS.

Thanks for your help so far.

Hi Peter

This looks like it's an issue with "Windows PDB writer" take a look here : https://github.com/aspnet/AspNetCore/issues/3038

I found that last night and have added the required dll to the site root but am still getting these issues. Is there any other way to add this reference. I used the package manager in VS, installed it and simply copied the dll from published directory to production site?

Copying the file to the site root likely won't help - diasymreader.dll is part of .NET framework which is stored elsewhere on the server.

If you do a search on your local drive, note the file size and datestamp for that DLL in the following folders:

\windows\microsoft.net\Framework\v4.0.30319
\windows\microsoft.net\framework64\v4.0.30319

Also, are you sure that when you compile in VS that you're compiling to Release mode?

Hi Barfnuts

So, looking at the dll in windows folder give me:

Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 = 27/03/2018 with filesize of 926kb
Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319 = 27/03/2018 with filesize of 1241kb

Cheers

Forgot to say it was definitely using Release mode when publishing.
