The Multi-store solution (distinction of stores by HTTP HOST) does not work for sites in virtual categories on the same domain. For example, you cannot have one store on http://www.site.com/store1 and the second store on http://www.site.com/store2, since the HTTP HOST value for both of these sites is the same (www.site.com).

I also need this setup for a future website I have planned, it would be a great feature to have in nopCommerce (e.g. multi country support using sub folders). More and more people are using subfolders rather than subdirectories for the search engine domain authority. Pretty sure it should be straight forward to implement by storing the store against the user's session.

I've recently applied this enhancement, was only about 4hrs work. So there should be no result why this can't be implemented into the core quickly. It's been built the same was as language dynamic slugs are built so we can have:
Separate Stores (per country in this case) /au /uk /ca
