Hello I just upgraded from 3.5 to 3.6 and what a great difference. My shipping by total no loner works and I get this error in my log file: Thanks in advance
Resource string (plugins.shipping.ups.fields.tracing) is not found. Language ID = 1

This error is not related to the Shipping.ByTotal plugin, the locale string resource is used by the Shipping.UPS plugin.
You seem to be missing the resource and can add it via Admin > Configuration > Language > click 'View string resources' for "English" Language (Language ID = 1) > click 'Add new record' button > use the following values:
Resource Name: Plugins.Shipping.UPS.Fields.Tracing
Value: Tracing
> click 'Update' to save the new resource.
