Hello All,


We have been approached by various big clients in Greece that wanted a full eCommerce solution.

Some of those clients have chosen Magento (Enterprise) because they wanted to start building their e-commerce solution with a platform with many enterprise features out of the box.

We all know that Magento Enterprise  license costs more 20K per year but despite the cost those clients opted for Magento.

We all know that NopCommerce is an excellent shopping cart software but we thought that it would be nice to share our feedback with the community in order to start a discussion on how to improve the product and bring big brands into NopCommerce.


Some of the suggested features follow:

1) Better MultiVendor support
2) Store Credit - money not points
3) Phone orders - Not the Impersonate support
4) Better bundle Support
5) Support for multiple wishlists
6) Dynamic customer segmentation
7) Elastic search
8) Common Basket - between stores
9) Pricelists per store
10) Admin bulk operations & drag - drop support

1) when it comes to vendors I had in mind the following

•  A vendor will be able to manage his own campaigns
•  A vendor will be able to manage his own discounts
•  A vendor can have his own theme
•  A vendor can add his own categories
•  Each vendor will receive the money from each order and not get paid the store administrator
•  Display list of Vendors
•  Vendors choose shipping method
•  Vendors should be able to post featured products on store homepage if they pay for this service to the store owner
•  Customers to communicate with vendors directly
•  PM support for vendors
•  Vendors to add news
•  Vendors to add blog posts
•  Filter by vendor
•  SEO Management for vendors
•  Advanced Vendor Reports

The following feature is what we had in mind for the Store Credit

Store Credit enables store owners to engage customers and enhance the interaction with them.
Store credit enables store owners to add credit or refund customers by credit.
Customers can use the credit to make purchases on the store or even share with their friends.
Store credit can be used as a convenient and time-saving payment method. The customer just needs to charge or recharge their credit accounts and then use for many future purchases.

•  Sell Credits
o  Sell credits on store like products
o  Add credits for customers as gifts in their birthdays or one year purchase anniversary
•  Use Credits
o  Customers can use credit to pay for next orders
o  Customers can pay for tax and shipping fees
o  Refund by credit
  Instead of refunding to Customers’ bank accounts or getting them to come directly to your store, you can return their order values to their credit accounts. In that way, customers are more likely to come back and buy some other items at your store.
•  Manage Store Credits
o  Check credit balance
o  Transaction history

This is what we had in mind for the Phone orders support

•  Sometimes customers are not sure about a product, functionality e.t.c. Most of the times they do not purchase the product
•  A customer on the product page can add their phone and then a member of the store will contact them
•  The admin of the store will receive notifications when someone fills in his phone number and asks for a contact
•  The admin will be able to see details of the request i.e. visitor’s phone number, product URL and status of the request – whether someone from the e-shop has already called the visitor and thread can be completed (status: “verified”) or not.
•  Sometimes the customer calls directly the store and asks to buy something. The “Place order” functionality in NopCommerce is helpful but we think a dedicated functionality for phone order support should be implemented
•   The store admin should be able to fill in a few customer details and add the products to the order


4) when we say bundle products we had in the mind the following

•  Bundle product buy 1+1
•  Bundle product with greater quantity of the same product
•  2+1 gift
•  2+2 gift
•  2 of a kind X% discount
•  3 of a kind X% discount

This is what we had in mind for the multiple wishlists support

This is a great enhancement to the standard wishlist feature. It would be great to have one wishlist (e.g personal shopping wishlist) and one for e.g Christmas (Christmas shopping wishlist)
•  Customer can create multiple wishlists
•  Customers can rename and delete wishlists
•  Customers can add selected products from a wishlist to the cart
•  Customers can add all products from all wishlists to the cart
•  Customers can move products between wishlists
•  Customers can copy products between wishlists
•  Customers can choose to keep products on wishlist even if they transfer them to the cart
•  Customers can remove products from wishlists
•  When adding a product on the wishlist the customer can choose the wishlist which the product will be added
•  Ability to share wishlists with friends



6) For Dynamic customer segmentation we think the following is a good start

Track customer behavior and navigation inside the e-shop and based on this info (analytics) to offer them related content, e.g someone navigates to the digital cameras section, next time he visits the eshop’s homepage the homepage is changed and shows digital cameras.

The proposed functionality could have

•  Ability to segment registered users
•  Segment quest visitors by order and shopping cart data
•  Create segmentation rules
•  Segmentations could include
o  Date of Birth
o  Gender
o  Days from last visit
o  Days Before birthday
o  Days from cart created
o  Product pages visited
o  Categories visited

•  Bulk Increase / decrease product price by amount or percentage
•  Bulk set discount amount for multiple products
•  Bulk publish/unpublish products
•  Bulk Edit Products
•  New Reports
o  Sales by Category
o  Sales by Manufacturer
o  Sales by Gender
o  Sales by payment methods
o  Sales by Shipment Type

Thank you Andrei for embracing our suggestions.

NopCommerce is an awesome product and will become number 1 shopping cart software when these features will be implemented.

Hopefully other vendors and partners will share their views and feedback.

A few more enhancements - features we thought would be really interesting

1) when we have a shoe/fashion e-shops that sells shoes and clothes in different colors it would be great if in the catalog list / product list each product (shoe / jacket) could be shown in all the available colors.

So if a product has 3 colors would appear 3 times in the category list and not just once.

2) it would be great if we could have multiple images that define color per product. when we have a red shoe we can relate the red color (not with the square color box) but with an image that shows a red shoe. However we cannot have multiple images that are related with the red show. so when we see it in the product page we see below in the thumbnails images of the show with the green color e.t.c

Both can be done using a grouped product with variants, one for each color and:
For 1) make each variant visible, in searches and category listings display variants instead of the grouped product and link each listed variant to the detail page of the grouped product. Example (http://www.buckhouse.com.mx/3_BROGUES_AND_LACEUPS)

For 2) change the grouped product template to instead of displaying a list of the variant to have a color selector by name, color image or product color image as in this example (top right corner of product detail)

Thanks a lot for the reply.

We've implemented something similar to that here: https://www.inshoes.gr/gynaikeia-goves-inshoes-l506-2?colorAttributeId=49265

We also needed to have the correct image selected when the customer clicked on the product from the category page. We also did some customizations on the way sizes and colors appear. (note it's a previous version of nopCommerce)

It would be interesting if you could display some screenshots of the admin of you have implemented in your solution. I have some concerns about how easy would be for the administrator to maintain it.

In any case I think that this can be really enhanced/improved and it would be nice to start a discussion about it in order to provide better support for fashion/shoe stores.
