"New Products" Page Improper Sort Order By When Product Count Is Limited

Using nopC 4.40.3

Under Catalog Settings > Number of products on 'New products' page, when you restrict this number  below the total published products, the sort order is no longer most recent. I am not sure what the order is but it is not most recent. When you set this number back to a higher number than the total published products, sort order is restored to most recent descending.
