Is Volusion trying to scare people away from Nopcommerce?

Hi guys,

I was really surprised to see an ad by Volusion going after nopcommerce.

Here's a screen clipping:  http://www.freeimagehosting.net/newuploads/d5g8o.jpg and here is another: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/newuploads/9ebzr.jpg

It is really sad to think that they would try to go after such a good open source shopping cart.  I guess they feel nopcommerce is a threat to their company...

Maybe it is time for all of those here who have their own blogs to write some articles... maybe something like "Nopcommerce, a better alternative to Volusion" or "Tired of paying so much for Volusion? Try Nopcommerce".

Are there other companies that are running ads against Nopcommerce?

I'll contact them in order to get these ads removed and get some comments...

I've just found out that volusion is powered by classic ASP. Ohh God!

It would be great...

According to your screenshots it's BigCommerce.

Hopefully they will listen and take them down.  Here is another one they have going.  Make sure that they take them all down.

Let us know what they say...

Well it seemed that at least BigCommerce was just advertizing on nopcommerce instead of attacking it.  It is shameful that Volusion would stoop so low as to try to attack a perfectly good open source software with terms like, "Don't trust", "not safe", and things like that.

I guess I just would have thought that a company as large as Volusion be above something like that.  Reminds me of political attack ads... :-)

Good article!  I don't know Dutch, but I was able to read it with Google translate. :-)

Thanks, Eduardo. But the issue is that nopCommerce trademark is still in the process of registration (we started it just a couple of months ago). If they won't stop it in a friendly way, then seems that we'll have to  hire one more lawyer to deal with them

Defamation is also against Google Adwords policy. They require that all ads are accurate:
Advertiser claims

What's the policy?

Your AdWords ads should be truthful, accurate, and up-to-date every time they're shown to users.

Advertiser claims include but are not limited to: competitive claims, superlatives, offers, discounts, and pricing. This policy also covers unverified offers and claims that are either scientifically impossible, or otherwise misleading to users.

All advertising claims must be factually supportable. ...

Accurate Ads

Advertising should be accurate and truthful.
Advertising can be informative, entertaining, metaphorical, or even tell a story. However, any factual claims and offers should always be credible and accurate. Misleading, inaccurate, and deceitful ads hurt everyone – users, publishers, developers, and advertisers. To ensure the ads we show are accurate and safe, we've developed the following advertising policies around accurate ads:

Thanks a lot, Eduardo!

P.S. Seems that these ads are geographically limited (presume, USA and some EU countries). I don't see them (located in Russia). So please let me know in several days whether these ads are still visible.

I will let you know if I still see them after a few days.  Hopefully they will take them down.

I was just going to submit a complaint here. When I select "Content of the ad creative" I'm asked to copy and paste the ad's link location (instructions below)

1. Find the ad you have feedback for.
2. Right-click on the ad title and select one of the following, based on your browser: Copy Shortcut (Internet Explorer); Copy Link Location (Firefox); Copy Link (Safari); Copy Link Address (Chrome).
3. Right-click in the field below and select Paste. This will insert the link location directly into this form, and it will appear as a long string of letters and numbers.

But these ads are not displayed to Russian users. Hence I cannot copy these links. Could anybody please copy and paste here links of these ads (both)?
