Service based Business

Can NopCommerce be customised or adapted for Service-based business?

nopCommerce can be used as base for virtually any type of website and the system includes CMS features like blogs, forums and news.
The website does not have to sell products and/or can be used for the display various information types which can then be grouped together with categories.
There are lot of things than can be customised and switched off like the display of SKU's and prices .
Nearly every text item can be changed and/or localised for different countries.
If you talking about the sale of units of measure – say for hours then that would be possible.
Or there are various display (product) attribute types which can be used.

What specific service-based business features are you thinking off ?

The business is Mortgage/Financial Advisor.

Nopcommerce is open-source which means I'd be allowed (Licensed) to modify/customize the code with no restriction?  Is that correct?

Possibly you wont need to change the code but one option is you make plugins if you intend to make a lot of changes - so that it becomes more managable over time - for upgrades, etc

Yes! As Yidna already explained, nopCommerce is out of the box e-commerce platform and its open source so you can get it to do anything you want. Just for an example, we used the nopCommerce for many other applications and use cases not just e-commerce. Recently we build a business listing portal that host thousands of businesses with micro sites exhibiting various businesses. We have our own CMS feature on top of nopCommerce that powers business listing, a powerful search and host of other features that converted the app to be a B2B marketplace hosting many different services covering many different use cases. I also want to mention that nopCommerce as a platform, got almost everything that you need to build anything! You're just limited to your imagination and technical know how on how to best utilize it.
