La caratteristica principale delle BCC è quella di essere società cooperative per azioni, mutualistiche e locali. Capillarmente diffuse nel nostro Paese, da oltre 130 anni svolgono il loro ruolo di banche del territorio, assolvendo a una funzione specifica, quella di promuovere sviluppo e di rispondere alle necessità economiche e sociali delle comunità; locali, così come espresso nell'art. 2 dello Statuto delle BCC.
