Limit show products in category query to 100 records

I am wondering if you could point me in the right direction to Limit the number products which are shown in category, when user clicks on the category to 100

For example, if I have 1000 products in category, but the user clicks on it, I want only top 100 to be shown.

Any help would be appreciated!

afaik the number of products you select are shown. Just remove the pager?

it is an interesting idea; but is there a way to modify the "pager" and limit it to 100 pages ?
