full 1.40 install on godaddy shared hosting

I'm trying to install the full source 1.40 on GoDaddy shared hosting.  When I try to access the install.aspx file, I'm getting a 500 internal server error.  Suggestions?

More info: the files are readable and writable (ran into this problem before), and I have an empty direct access database ready for install.
