Product with different attributes as a new product

Hi,
we have products with different attributes and they all have a different SKU.
say product A has three colors, each color is considered a new product with a different SKU.
but while listing this product we want to list it as product A with three color options.
when customer picks product A with color X; color X's SKU will be in receipt.
is this possible?

i think attribute combination is still valid if there is only one attribute, right?
