Email Validation method clears shopping cart

"I have set registration to the 'Email Validation' method.

I visit the site as Guest, create a shopping cart. On the checkout I get options to checkout as guest or register.

I choose 'Register'. As per the registration setting, I get an email for validation. I copy and paste the email validation link and get validated. Now I log in to site using my username and password. But by that time I have lost my shopping cart which was created as 'Guest'.

Because of this my customers are getting irritated. Is there a way whereby I can keep the 'Email Validation' process and still the shopping cart is not lost? "
