Using gmail as your default mail server on V3.90?

Has anyone successfully set up gmail as the default mail server in version 3.90?  I can't seem to get it to authenticate, and I'm sure I'm just doing something stupid.

Make sure you go into your security setting in gmail and allow less secure apps.

https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en

In Nop, set your host to smtp.gmail.com
Set your port to 587
Email address and user is the email address ([email protected])
SSL MUST be enabled (check)
Do NOT use default credentials (uncheck)

For anyone else curious, after I made the changes I tried to send out a test email.  I was prompted with an error that the account wasn't authorized.

After I tried to send the test email, I logged into my account security page (https://myaccount.google.com/security) and there was a security notification that an unauthorized attempt was made to use my account.  I had to verify that it was me and that I authorized it, and after that it let me use the email server with my nopCommerce website.

Just to be clear; ChuckR's info, coupled with the additional bit I added just after his answer, got me working 100%.  It's all good, that process will get you up and running with gmail as your mail server.
