My website is set up to take paypal standard as payment and I'm receiving an order with no payment.  I think the customer is having problems. I am using 3.70

Here is a note from one customer:
"I have tried to order from your site twice, but each time I try to pay through paypal, they cancel the payment and say that the address I gave your site is wrong. I've reviewed the address several times and I can see no problem with it. Is it possible there is an issue on your end? "

So I tried it and I could get to Paypal but noticed that if the customer does not choose the shipping address in step 1 and 2 and leaves what appears to be a default but does not click on it the choice is not seen by paypal it returns an empty cart and an error about the address being wrong. Is there a way to have the initial cart return a blank empty space or have it default to add address to engage the customer to choose an address?

Does anybody have any suggestions for anything I might change?  I'm pretty sure I'm missing out on a number of orders.  Also my inventory gets changed with each order that goes through whether I get payment or not.  Then I have to go in and manually fix it or cancel the order.

Since PayPal Standard will work as I did a test of this and it worked successfully I assume the issue is in the Shopping Cart not the plugin? You have to choose the address but the view that is returned looks like the address is already populated even though it says choose the address? I have a feeling that if it required the customer to choose the address from either an add address prompt populated or a blank where it throws a warning please choose your address it would not have the problem? It might only have this issue using PayPal Standard as it builds the whole order and then takes it to be processed out of the website to PayPal.

Is there a way to change the default to add address with the drop down? I think it is a bug because it will appear to have captured the data as you get to verifying the order but when it goes to confirm with a redirect to PayPal it does not retain or see the address if it was not actually clicked in the first two steps.

Any help on this would be appreciated!

Are you using a custom theme or a 3rd party "one page checkout"?

Do a test check out as you describe (leave default shipping address)
1) Check the System > Log .  Any errors?
2) In Admin, look at the Order,
  a) does it have a Shipping Address?
  b) what is in the Notes?  (normally, the PayPal plugin will put the auth/transaction info here)

I am not using a custom theme or third party on this. It is just what comes with 3.7 as far as the PayPal Direct and shopping cart go. I am not sure why it appears that the default shipping works without choosing it but it fails when  it tries to pass the information to PayPal unless you actually choose the address from the drop down list menu. If you choose it when checking out it will work and process the payment. By default when you check out there is an address in the billing and shipping but when it goes to pass the info after the order is put together it will go to paypal and return the bad address warning and then and then go back to an empty cart but the system has a pending order still from the checkout process.

PayPal Direct or Standard?
Please do the test described above (check log, order)

PayPal Standard. i think it has a statement in the cart asking to choose the billing address and the shipping address but it is pre populated with an address so the user doe not feel like they have to choose one if it looks correct. Then as you check out it looks good as you choose the shipping and the payment defaults to PayPal...everything looks correct and you then hit the confirm button. That's when I noticed that if you did NOT manually choose the addresses it goes to PayPal and returns the address error in the message and when you go back to the page the cart is empty so the user starts over again. It has taken one out of inventory though and acts like the order is completed.

I think it is a bug in how the built in nop cart passes the info to the PayPal standard module. If the defaults were set to blank or if add address were set to the default state of the cart then the user has to select the address?

Thoughts?

Sarah,
You keep repeating the same symptoms, but in order to help further we need more information; please...

I will check and see what happens? I will look at the logs and try to find the information you need to gain insight into the issue. One quick question... In the PayPal Standard module as it is implemented, what does the address override feature do and should it be checked or not checked? When I go to edit the payment method I see that as an option? Could it have anything to do with how or if/when it passes information when the confirm button is clicked to take the customer to the PayPal login?

The site I am working on is www.shopwoodnit.com by the way. Thanks
