Expected files and code For NOP3.9 from a developer

Hello NOP commerce community
What files should I expect to receive from a developer of a NOP3.9 installation so they can be built out in Visual Studio.  
I have received two files: db.7z and Companyname.z.
If I extract them there are many files however should I expect some should of document telling me where the files are and a procedure on how to build it.
What is standard professional practice in these matters.
Any help is appreciated.

All the nopcommerce "files" are freely available and viewable on github.

Documentation is also available via nopcommerce.com.

(additionally, you could use a Diff tool to see what changes he made)
