Drop IE6 support?

Every web developer knows about issues with IE6 with its hacks and how many time it requires to support it properly. Isn't it time to drop IE6 support in the upcoming nopCommerce 2.80 with the new default theme?

There are a lot of articles over the web about IE6 and thoughts about whether it should be supported. I'll just share two most interesting links:

The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown
Browser Trends December 2012

Please let me know your thoughts.

I think it's the best time to clean up the code as we are moving towards a new theme. Just a suggestion, that if the user is using IE 6 then there should be a message like this site is best viewed in IE 7 or above please upgrade.

Absolutely agree and can add IE7 too as by looking at the statistics it looks like IE6 and IE7 are simply dead animals.

The better news here is that IE(any versions) is a dying animal too.

HTML5 is the right way to go with all the mobile devices supporting it.

EDIT: This stats seems to be more accurate http://www.sitepoint.com/browser-trends-december-2012/
