SEO meta Keywords

A quick question about meta   keywords

should individual words be separated by commas ( , ) or semi colons ( ; )  or do they not need any separators  ?

ie    which is most appropriate :

car, red, manual, leather, seats, rear, wheel, drive,

or

car  red manual leather seats rear wheel drive

they should be separated by , but keywords no longer play any role in SEO
