CVV2 Code - Who uses it?

Hi All

I've seen some discussion about the use of the CVV2 Code and not using it, if using a Payment Gateway.

I was wondering why this would be? Is it not better to have the CVV2 anyway?

It would be interesting to know who uses it anyway and whether there is a way to make it mandatory?
