Does anyone have any suggestions for adding a hit counter to the website?

Honestly?  Don't.

Hit counters are a horrible measure of site visits. Use a log tool instead. Most webhosts offer them for free.

Just my suggestion.
Currently running nopCommerce 1.40 at http://www.realitycheckgames.com
I use http://www.myhosting.com in case you were wondering.
