editing options on credit card selection page

On checkoutpaymentinfo.aspx, how do I limit the CC choices that appear in the menu?

configuration --> payment --> credit card


add or remove the ones you offer ( these only appear for some payment menthods eg manual processing and paypal direct )

That's exactly what I did - removed all but Visa and MC, yet Amex and Discover still appear on the payment options page during checkout.

The answers is that the CC choices hard coded in the template .ascx file associated with each payment method. Changing that fixed it.
