V1.7 to V4.6

Hi, we would like to upgrade NOP Commerce from 1.7 to 4.6.

As we notice substantial changes in versions 2.0, 4.0 and post 4.3, we plan to have a multi-step migration from 1.7 to 2.0, 2.0 to 4.0, 4.0 to 4.3, 4.3 to 4.6.

Could you please suggest if this would be a correct approach?

For each step of the migration, below is what we plan. For example, when migrating from 1.7 to 2.0:
1. Take a backup of the existing DB.
2. Run DB migration scripts for 1.8, 1.9, 2.0
3. Install 2.0.
4. Apply customizations and make sure the functionalities work.
5. Proceed to next migration step.

Also, are there any other major considerations we should keep in mind when migrating from 1.7 to 4.6 especially because 1.7 is almost 13 years old.

I am also running a v1.7 that may need to upgrade but unfortunately the system and database has been customised so the above path will not work

Just to confirm you have not made any customisations to your system or database since v1.7 ?

We have customizations for the Customer Website, Admin Website and Database on V1.7. The NOP out-of-the-box tables should be untouched, but we have added many custom tables to the schema as part of customization.

Could you please help us understand more on why the above path might not work, and any suggestions/pointers to move forward.
