How to keep checkout bread crumb menu ?

Hi,

can someone tell me where I can change the routes that takes the checkout.
Currently when a customer goes for checkout, the layout changes to
the OnePageCheckout.cshtml. But I want to keep on with the breadcrums menu.
If someone could point me to the right direction where to change this route nice and quick would be
nice. I have seen the documents that would work with the breadcrumbs menu but do not know how to turn that on.
I guess there is some sort of switch somewhere I have not found.

I am fine with any kind of switch. I just dont want to invent a wheel again, that propably is already there.
Just point me the right direction please.
