PayPal Direct via REST API being deprecated

With the built in plugin for PayPal Direct in 3.9 and 4.0, it instructs the admin to create a REST API application on PayPal developer to get the necessary keys and webhook. When I couldn't get the live keys to authorize, I contacted Paypal MTS support. They informed me that doing direct credit card payments through a REST API is deprecated, and they suggested either Braintree or Payflow Pro.

Is there a suggested route to take? I'd prefer to keep using my Paypal merchant account. Just wanted to make sure the product owners knew about this.

Thanks

I'm on 3.8 and looking to move to 4.0 but am worried now that I see this. Does a PayPal merchant account no longer work with nopCommerce after 3.8?

Thank you,
Scott

Hi Scott,

Have you check with PayPal official support?
I just bought nopCommerce Premium support and asked them this issue.

Didn't know if this is the same situation you faced.

I got the answer from nopCommerce Premium Support about this

nopCommerce Premium Support Replied:

we contacted PayPal support in order to make sure that the plugin is outdated. Probably it will not be out of the box anymore.
Meanwhile if you want to use PayPal direct you have 3 choices:
1. Create an integration by yourself
2. Request a quote on the following page - http://www.nopcommerce.com/requestquote.aspx
3. Find a plugin on our marketplace:

As far as I can tell, unless there's a problem with the plug-in itself, the REST API is alive and well (For a completely different cart system, I wrote one last month with REST to move away from SOAP) and the only one to use.
The SOAP API, however, is officially deprecated and will be completely eliminated.  Paypal requires TLS1.2 (regardless of the API) as of Jun 30th, 2018 (in 3 weeks), so if you're using anything else, Paypal will not work (all services will fail, not just payment).
