Tax not being calculated at checkout

Hi everyone,

I setup tax for just one state as 8.0% in the admin area using the "Tax By Country & State & Zip" Tax Provider. I then set this tax provider as the primary provider.

I added some stuff to my shopping cart, and I set my billing and shipping address inside of that state, and went to checkout. Tax shows as $0.0. What am I doing wrong?

Did you set a "Tax Category" on that page (Configure - Tax By Country & State & Zip)?
and, did you assign that Tax Category to each product variant?  (if you have many products/variants, this is best done directly in SQL, or do product export, update in excel, and then do import - this will only work if you have assigned SKUs)

Actually I did not do this.

So if I understand correctly, I should assign this to every product (agree, will be easiest to do so on the database). And then any time a new product is added, I will need to assign the category manually...is that right?
