Search not functioning correctly

Looking for some help....

On the site I'm working on the search is all over the place, searching for "soft" brings up products which don't have the word "soft" in the name, description or indeed anywhere. And the products with the word "soft" in the name and description show up on page 5/6 etc.

Is there a way to correct the order and why are products with no relation to the search showing up?

if you are using full text search, it will also search for synonyms for "soft"

I think it can be changed to not search for the synonyms, but I'm not sure how.

However, if you're looking for advanced search plugin which uses a Apache Solr to improve search results and order it as per relevancy to the search terms with blazing fast search even on huge catalog... let me know.
