PayPal Advanced or PayPal Payments Pro required for PayPal.Direct plugin?

Hello while testing payments when trying to pay using the PayPal Direct plugin I ended up getting the dreaded "Payment error: LongMessage: This transaction cannot be processed due to an invalid merchant configuration. ShortMessage: Invalid Configuration ErrorCode: 10501" error.

After some research it appears this is pretty common and in my case most likely due to not having an Advanced or Pro account with PayPal.

I installed the PayPal Express plugin and it appears to work great but I don't think a button that takes the customer away from my site is a compromise I'm willing to make.

Can anyone confirm if just a PayPal Advanced account will be sufficient to use the PayPal Direct plugin to capture credit card payments?

Edit: Also might I recommend listing what level of PayPal account is necessary for the plugin to work in the configuration screen on nopCommerce admin?  It's probably self-evident to others but would likely save time for those of us that are PayPal ignoramuses.

Turns out you need a PayPal PRO account or PayFlow PRO account to use the PayPal Direct plugin.  I believe this is how each PayPal level is setup:

PayPal Express | Free | Able to create button that leads customer to PayPal site to pay for order

PayPal Advanced | $5/mo | Able to iframe in PayPal page so customer can stay on your site but still must enter detail on PayPal site

PayPal Pro | $30/mo | Able to hide PayPal completely and take credit card details on your site using PayPal as a back-end merchant through API

Hopefully this saves other people some time and aggravation.

It appears only PayPal PRO will allow you to keep customers on your site to collect payment information without redirecting them to a secure paypal page or having to iframe that page on your site.

Not sure if that helps but hope you get it sorted out.  Once you get the plugin working it's very easy and seamless for customers to enter credit card details on your site and they never have to know that you're even using PayPal on the back end.

What plugin do I need to make Paypal Payments Pro work with  my current 3.10 version? Has anyone used it and had success with it integrating correctly?
