Installing nopcommerce 1.40 in a virtual directory - root permissions

My web host won't allow me permissions over the root folder.

I have therefore set up a virtual directory to enable the site to run.

Is this the right way to do it or have a i totally misunderstood the situation?

you won't always be able to set it up the the root - wh4L   for example require you to create subfolders on your account and set them as applications, giving them required permissions

bit of a pain when the shared ssl certificate which they provide only works in the root folder !
