Inventory

In Inventory  - Track - Backorders-   can someone tell me the difference between -allow qty below 0 - and -allow qty below 0 and notify customer -  I currently have a theme installed and I see no difference  , thinking maybe this was omitted in theme?  I assuming  this is a pop up  warning of stating no inventory ?

Sorry  I figured this out , working with 3.8  if I have 0 in stock and have "allow qty below 0 and notify customer" ticked  it will show on page that the item is on backorder and will be shipped  when in stock .  My  thought  was if I had 1 in stock  and customer ordered 5  and had notify customer ticked  that it would show and or give a warning that there was not enough in stock , but that is not the case as there is no notification
