How to disable preprod environment?

Hi all,

We have a preprod environment for our website: http://preprod.ourwebsite.com/  Now we want to disable it to avoid confusion (some clients somehow got the link for it), how can we do that?

Within the admin panel of preprod environment I tried two things but they have not worked;
1- In Settings > General Settings I marked Store Closed checkbox
2- In Stores page I have changed the store link to http://preprodtest.ourwebsite.com/ however the original still works and this one doesn't work after half an hour.

To clarify, the first option marks the store as closed for visitors however I am looking to make "preprod......" link totally unaccessible.
