if i create a topic it doesnt show

when creating a new topic, it doesn't show anywhere.
Where should it appear?

I wanted my new topic to appear in the left column 'information'

so i had to edit the 'infoblock.ascx' module

i added a new list item called 'wholesale' which pointed to my topic.
