where the Maintenance backup database gets stored ?

I took a Maintenance  backup  in 1.7 version and  did a 1.8 update and now i don't see any backup when i go to admin section > System   >   Maintenance  .

where exactly my previous backup files were stored and now how i can retrieve them back ?

Backup files are stored into \Administration\Backups directory
