I only have 4 or 5 products. Is there a way to skip the categories in the navbar to go straight to the product detail page?

you could simply hard code link to the 4-5 product directly into the left hand column and have no categories

you could do this in various places eg  the masterpage, in infoblock.ascx

Thanks Hayden, I thought there might have been another way ... but I guess not.  Thanks again.  

It would be nice if we could change the category template to a product detail template.

Hide the category list and show your products in the home page
