How to bulk add 400 products with their respective variants quickly?

Hi,

New 1.9 solution built and ready to go live - however big problem is client has 400 products to upload, all with variant sets (some are common) - taking 25 mins per product to upload and setup.

The bulk import tool is useless as it does not let you assign or create variants - not found anything else that can help either open source or commercial so what can we do?

Just need an easy way to upload images, descriptions, prices, variants including sizes, colours etc and quickly - if anyone can help here commercially (i.e. we pay you to do it) please drop me a line directly
