I would like to be able to synchronize products from 3rd party system, so maybe some Product related api functions would be nice? (it seems that I can execute some custom SQL queries directly)

This plugin demonstrates how Web Service API can be created. So if you need to add some new methods, just extend the already implemented plugin.
