Hi all,

I've searched the forum but can only find very old posts on using PayPal from the UK.

My employer has signed up for a PayPal Website Payments Pro UK account. I've configured NopCommerce and successfully made a test purchase using a Visa card. However, I noticed today that the credit cards listed are not the ones supported by the UK version.

"In the UK, Website Payments Pro accepts Visa, Visa Electron, Visa Debit, Maestro, Mastercard and Solo." https://cms.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/?&cmd=_render-content&content_ID=developer/howto_api_ProUK_CA

Maestro required 3-D Secure https://www.paypal-business.co.uk/3dsecure.asp so I'm ruling that out.

When I went to remove Discover and Amex and add Solo I found that these card types are hardcoded into PayPalDirect\PaymentModule.ascx.

Is it safe and sufficient to change the ddlCreditCardType drop down list in that file, or is it not going to work for Solo cards?

Larry, you might know the answer to this?

Good question kingboyk, I would like to know the answer to this one too.

Like you I'm concerned that the solo card may not work because I think it asks for extra info.

Sorry mate, i haven't used that before.

There're too many unexpected limitations in paypal for medium sized business as they set transaction cap and charged insane on each transaction. One of my customer transferred me 1000pounds through paypal and paypal charged me 60.49 pounds.

My suggestion for you is use professional bank card transaction gateway such as realex

One of my customers is using realex and she's very happy with the service.

That's my quick answer and i'll do some research to see if we can find a better solution for this together.

Regards.

Thanks for the tip, I'll bear that in mind if we need to switch.

Paypal Website Payments Pro seems to be perfectly adequate for a small business though. It's a proper payment gateway (customer doesn't know it's Paypal) but doesn't need a merchant account and the charges are reasonable. I'm no fan of Paypal either but this solution is easy to get started with and seems "good enough".
